Swarm!
Our bees swarmed this weekend. What an adrenaline rush!
I was out in the yard tending to my 21 baby chicks and felt this vibration in the air and then heard this amazing sound of bees buzzing. The bees were circling everywhere in the air. I know nothing about bee raising. We found them accumulating on a branch and watched as the branch became a black coat of bees. My 22 year old son, Oliver, the beekeeper, who was at that moment driving home from college, directed us via cell phone (my other son Oren and my husband Rich, who is allergic to bees), on how to get them into the new nuc box.
It was a comedy of errors.
My fifteen year-old son standing on a ladder with a broom, me with a box to catch the bees resting on my head as Oren brushes them into the box saying ”I HATE BEES!”
And my husband standing about 15 feet away directing me to move forward, move back, to get right under the tree.
OH dear! What a scene! But we captured the queen and the swarm followed and my son checked on them the following morning and said “Nice job!”
