Women’s March in D.C. January 2017

I marched in the Washington D.C. Women’s March and although there were thousands of us gathered at the march, it felt communal and strong and peaceful and there was a strong conviction that it is time for all of us to start paying attention. The day before, I had the opportunity to work with Occasions Catering at an event overlooking the inaugural for a brunch. I was on the mall both days for completely different reasons. The contrast from one day to the other was vast:Friday, I emerged at Constitutional Ave (across from The Presidential Guest House) to a scene of army tanks of heavy artillery and lines of armed militia-the streets were quiet and empty.2A5199F7-5222-4320-BC7E-B5793D7DB507 The following day, those same streets were colored by masses of pink Pussy Hats, signs and slogans of brilliance, humor, sadness and disbelief. Families with strollers, bikers, women, men and children of hope and righteousness. I was proud to be among them and also witness to the day before of empty streets and quiet threats.
