"Injun Summer"
John T. McCutcheon's "Injun Summer" appeared every autumn on the front page of the Chicago Tribune. As a child, I looked forward to the issue that was read aloud to me and took me to a time that justified all the images of fall.It has disappeared in recent years, a victim of political correctness. The McCutcheon illustrations are ones that I remember displayed on fall-themed bulletin boards. It really is a piece that reflects a time of race relations in the past century (not just the sixties).
